Mohammed Salah was among the 30 football stars included in the Ballon d'Or nominees list released by France Football. The Egyptian winger finished in the top 5 in 2019 after helping Liverpool to a UEFA Champions League title win.
The nominees list also included Karim Benzema, Kevin De Bruyne, Giorgio Chiellini, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruben Dias, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Bruno Fernandes, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Robert Lewandowski, Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Luka Modric, Neymar, Mohamed Salah, Luis Suarez among others
1. His Current Form
Salah is arguably the most in-form player in Europe currently. The 29-year-old forward has scored ten goals and provided four assists in ten games for Liverpool this season.
He has now recorded 25 goals and six assists in 38 games in 2021. If Salah keeps up this form for Liverpool and his country Egypt, he will be one of the top three players nominated for the award next year.
2. Liverpool's Success
Lewandowski's heroics in helping Bayern Munich win the Champions League and the Bundesliga was why he was considered a favorite to win the unheld 2020 edition.
The last time Liverpool won the Champions League, Salah made the top 5. Salah can win the Ballon d'Or if he continues this impressive form. The Egyptian should push Liverpool to win another Champions League or Premier League title.
3. Egypt's Success At AFCON
Salah will lead his country to the 2021 African Cup of Nations in January 2022. The Pharaohs are together with Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, and Sudan in Group D.
Egypt remains the most successful team in the competition, having won the continental trophy on seven occasions. If Salah leads Egypt to a first AFCON trophy win since 2010, he would further bolster his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or come 2022.
