Lionel Messi breaks another goal scoring record against Huesca

Leo Messi never tires of breaking records. The history books will be full of milestones with his name on them. The latest, equalling Xavi Hernández this Monday against Huesca as the FC Barcelona player with the most official matches in the Blaugrana jersey.

And it took him little more than a quarter of an hour to break a new record. He scored a spectacular goal into the right corner of Álvaro Fernández, who could do nothing about the Argentine's unassailable shot. With this goal, Messi became the first player to score 20 or more goals in each of the last 13 league seasons in any of the five major leagues in Europe.

The first in which he did so was in 2008-09 when he scored 23 in total, and it is also the one in which, excluding the current season which has not yet finished, he scored the fewest. It is followed by last season marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, in which Messi scored 25 in total in the campaign, before and after the break.

With the one against Huesca, Messi has now scored 20 goals this season in 2020-21, a number that can still grow during the remaining 11 rounds to find out the champion.
