The toughest thing to do at the very top level of any professional sport is not just to win, but to perform consistently at the highest level.

Taiwo Awoniyi is one of Nigeria's best performers in Europe this season, and has been rewarded with an invitation to the Super Eagles for the first time.

Awoniyi’s invitation is part of the plans to strengthen the team and provide competition for the strikers, as well, as improving the balance and chemistry in the squad.

The Super Eagles will take on the Central African Republic in FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Thursday, and it's important to analyze how the Union Berlin striker fits into the squad.

Victor Osimhen is currently the undisputed number striker of the team, and he's expected to lead the attack tomorrow. That means Awoniyi will have to challenge Paul Onuachu for the number two positions.

Awoniyi stands better chance of overthrowing Onuachu, who is yet to fit in perfectly to the National Team, despite making his debut three years ago.

Like Osimhen, Awoniyi is strong, fast and can also press the opposing defenders. Awoniyi is also a versatile forward who can play from the wing or two strikers systems.

With these qualities, Awoniyi fits into the Super Eagles set up perfectly and can be slotted into the team in Osimhen's absence.

In addition, his style of play suits the Super Eagles midfielders than that of Onuachu, who relies on crosses and long ball.

However, saying Awoniyi’s style suits the team more than that of Onuachu, does not mean, he should be given automatic position in the squad. He has to work hard and show the coach, why it deserves the number two spot ahead of the Belgian-based striker.
