The new Premier League season is well underway and most of the top clubs have had mixed results. Chelsea impressive start to the new season has also seen their defenders outscored some top teams in the league, two of which will be considered in this article.
Since the return of Thomas Tuchel to Chelsea, the blues have imbibed the habit of having different goalscorers across the team. Their two wing backs can score goals as well as their central defenders. Young English defender, Trevoh Chalobah leads the way among Chelsea defenders with most goals scored this season, having netted his second league goal of the season against Southampton over the weekend.
The likes of Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Marcos Alonso, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, have also chipped in with at least a goal each in this league campaign, which means Chelsea defenders alone have scored seven league goals between them. There are some top Premier League teams, who possesses top strikers in the league and in even in the world at large, but have not had up to seven league goals this season. The London club won their first three games of the season by a score line of 1-0 each; however, they have suffered three consecutive defeats afterwards before returning to winning ways against Aston Villa over the weekend. In all, they have scored six league goals so far, despite having the likes of Heung Son Min and Harry Kane in their team.
The Gunners were beaten by newly promoted Brentford in the first game of the season, before losing to Manchester City and Chelsea in their next two games. However, a run of Three consecutive victories and a draw at Brighton and Hove Albion has seen them climb the table. They have only managed to score five league goals so far this season, and they have conceded ten in all.
Considering the fact that these two clubs possesses the best strikers in the country, Chelsea defenders should be praised for being more clinical in front of goal than some World-class forwards.
