UEFA Champions League

Teams that underperformed After Corona Virus Hiatus

After months of inactivity, the beautiful game resumed over a month ago with some major leagues in Europe continuing from where the stopped.

But things haven't been the same. Some teams that where doing quite well before the break found it difficult to replicate their forms. This piece will look into some of the teams in the major leagues around Europe apparently affected by the Corona virus hiatus.

Before the break, the Foxes where doing quite well and where tipped to secure one of the four places for next season's UEFA champions league. At some point they were second on the table, and where playing one of the best footballs in the league. But at the restart, the Foxes have been a shadow of themselves. They have dropped a lot of points which have put their champions league qualification in doubt. Their last game is against a resurgence Manchester United side, and only a win would suffice to give them a second appearance in the lucrative competition next season.

The newly crowned English champions have been a shadow of themselves since the restart. They have dropped more points after the resumption than they did when the league didn't go on break. Their ambition of beating the 100 points mark set by Pep's Manchester city two seasons ago have been shattered.

The Turkish side were on top of the table before the break, but as the league resumed, they have dropped many points and consequently, have been overtaken by Istanbul Basakehir who were confirmed champions last weekend. Now, then men in blue and blood will have to win their last game if they are to play in the Champions league next season.

Filipo Inzaghi's men were playing arguably the best football in the Italian Serie A before the break, and were even tipped to end Juventus' dominance. Their goal machine, Ciro Immobile who was scoring lots of goal have been poor since the restart. Their dream of winning the league have been blown away as they team can't replicate the form that kept them in the hunt for the Scudetto.

Before the break, this modest club was in and out of the top four in the Spanish language La Liga. But on redemption, the have failed to even qualify for Europa league football next season.

The Eagles were on top of the Portuguese league before the break, but on resumption, everything have changed. They have long been overtaken by their fierce rival, Porto who have just been crown this season's champions.

Their problems are more than the Corona virus hiatus. They have problems on and off the field. But to a some extent, it could be argued that the Spanish giants have been affected by the hiatus. They have lost the title to eternal rivals, Real Madrid.

Other teams that haven't performed well since the restart are Valencia, and Inter Milan.
