UEFA Champions League

Two records Chelsea set after the UCL win in 2012 that the club still holds today

Chelsea won its first UEFA Champions League title in 2012. The Blues defeated Bayern Munich on penalties in Munich to lift the title that owner Roman Abrahamovic wanted the most. On that incredible night in Munich, Chelsea set records and feats that still stand till today. It has been quite a while since that win, but the records have not been broken or equalled.

1. Chelsea is still the only London club to win the Champions League.

Chelsea set this record in 2012 after the win against Bayern Munich. In the UEFA Champions League's long history, some Premier League teams have won the highly coveted trophy. Teams like Manchester United, Chelsea and even Aston Villa have all lifted the UCL in the past. However, Chelsea remains the only London club to win the UCL.

Although it's been 9 years since Chelsea set this record, it has belonged only to the Blues. The closest a London club came to equalling the record was during the 2019 final when Tottenham Hotspur lost the final to Liverpool.

2. Chelsea is still the only London club to win the FA Cup and the UCL trophy in the same season.

By beating Bayern Munich in the 2012 final and Liverpool in the 2012 FA Cup final, Chelsea became the first London club to win both iconic trophies in the same season. Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1 to win the FA Cup to complete the double.

In addition to being the first club to achieve the feat, Chelsea is the second Premier League club to achieve the feat in history. The first EPL team to attain this feat was Manchester United in 1999. The club won the treble that year after beating Bayern Munich in the UCL final.
