Defensive boost for Chelsea as Key Duo return ahead of UCL Clash

Chelsea's defensive options have been bolstered by the return of Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger ahead of their Champions League match against Malmo on Wednesday.

The centre-backs were both back in training on Monday after missing Saturday's 1-0 Premier League win against Brentford. Experienced centre-back Silva just arrived from Brazil on Friday afternoon, giving the 37-year-old very little time to prepare for the Brentford match.

Germany international, Antonio Rudiger, had a slight back injury while on national team duty and was forced to miss the Blues' hard-fought victory on the road.

Edouard Mendy of Senegal made a run of five saves against the Bees in a crucial performance that helped Chelsea return to the top of the Premier League.

Andreas Christensen, a defender for the Blues, has praised the goalkeeper's performance. "On Saturday, he showed that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, not just the Premier League," Christensen told Chelsea's official website. "He's a fantastic goalie." You can see how important he is to the team and to us. Once more, we are lucky to have him.

"People can see and recognise what he is capable of and the level of quality he possesses. "It's difficult to watch him every day because you don't see how he works."

"It's really great to have him here." When he first arrived, he was a confident goalie. “He's a really nice, confident guy off the field and a very vocal player on the field. He is always trying to help us."
