COVID-19: Check Out 2 Super Eagles Players Who Test Positive

On the 9th of July, Paul Onuachu, a Super Eagles Striker has become the first notable Nigerian football star to be tested positive for Covid-19.

Onuachu who was tested positive at his KRC Gene club in Belgium had to be in quarantine for a were, according to the news.

Onuachu, who joined the Super Eagles in 2019 and was part of the final list to the 2019 AFCON, had just recently returned to his Belgian club KRC Genk after he accompanied Victor Osimhen for his father's burial in Nigeria.

The soaring striker had, therefore, missed his team’s pre-season friendly on 9th July 2020.

The Belgian league will kick off next month, August after it was aborted last month due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Samuel Kalu

Meanwhile, another Super Eagles player and Bordeaux forward, Samuel Kalu, has also been tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the second Super Eagles star to contract the disease after the Genk striker, Paul Onuachu.

Samuel Kalu has been in quarantine in France since returning from the West African nation, and a report had made it verified that Kalu was the player announced by the club to have contracted COVID-19 on July 6.

The club did not publish the name of the infected player when they made the statement then.

The Nigerian player has missed the team’s training sessions since the opening of camp and might be left out of some of the club’s pre-season games.

According to reports, Samuel Kalu is expected to rejoin the rest of the squad on July 27 if his test returned negative.

His companion, Paul Onuachu, who was earlier tested positive for coronavirus on July 8, has since been confirmed negative, according to results from his last tests.

During the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Kalu was carried to the hospital on the day before Nigeria’s opening match after he collapsed during training. A medical report disclosed that he had suffered from intense dehydration.
