Manchester United is in for a wild ride in the coming weeks as the squad is currently dealing with a sudden injury crisis in their defense. The upcoming match against Leicester is important in its own way, but more important, is the Champions League game against Atalanta who are the current group leaders.
Atalanta are in hot form in both the local league and the Champions League and unlike Young Boys and Villarreal, they know how to score goals, a lot of them. Keeping out goals has not been Manchester United's forte this season and without their three best defenders likely out of that game, their chances of not conceding a goal are slim.
What they can do however, is to reduce the amount of goals that they might concede by playing 3 center backs. A trio of Lindelof, Bailly and Scott McTominay could do the trick as Scott has proven that he could be a competent defender when needed.
This means that Diogo Dalot who is more attacking minded than Wan Bissaka, could go ahead and do as he likes in the final third, as well as Luke Shaw whose intelligence could prove to be the match decider. The midfield could be controlled by Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba with the latter focusing on performing the roles of a deep lying play maker.
A strong forward line of Ronaldo, Cavani and Greenwood would be efficient against a physical team like Atalanta where Sancho and Martial would stand no chance.
