2 Reasons Why Romelu Lukaku Could Flop at Chelsea Irrespective of His Efforts and Commitment.

Romelu Lukaku made a sensational return to Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window for £97.5m on a five-year deal. He has hit the ground running with four goals in his first four matches for the club.

He scored on his second debut for the club against fellow London club Arsenal as they won the game by 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. However, he has gone on to play another four matches without scoring which is a call for concern over a player whom the club almost went bankrupt in a bid to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku is no doubt an exceptional and sharp attacker, with a great physique and an incredible shooting technique. He can cause havoc to opposition defenders when allowed some space. Despite all these qualities, he could still end up as a Flop for the following reasons;

1. Lack of a creative midfielder

Chelsea has recently found themselves short of goals after playing two matches against Manchester City and Juventus without scoring. Lukaku has been on the end of the criticism due to his inability to muster shots on goal let alone score in the process.

But the truth is, Lukaku is a great finisher any day any time but when the ball doesn't get to him, how then can he score.

A creative midfielder who can deliver those decisive passes, brilliant through balls, and have a good understanding of the striker's positioning is all the Robust attacker needs to be at his best.

Failure to provide him with that could hamper his productivity and that of the team which will therefore include his name on the list of flops that have played for the club.

2. Poor Partnership

In the absence of a creative midfielder, a good supporting striker could do the magic in getting the best out of the striker just like Paulo Dybala combines perfectly with Morata.

One of the reasons Romelu Lukaku succeeded at Inter Milan was the great assistance of the diminutive Argentine Lautaro Martinez who played side by side with the Belgian international.

At Chelsea, he has been made to play as a point man on many occasions. Timo Werner who is the only available partner to the Belgian has been nothing short of woeful since he joined the London Club.

He has failed multiple times to live up to expectations in terms of scoring and providing assists when played alongside another striker.

With Chelsea looking like they won't be adding recruits in January, Lukaku will have no other choice than to keep struggling all by himself just to make a mark which will be relatively difficult.

This could also affect his performance at the club and with such a huge fee paid for him, nothing short of perfection is expected of him. Failure to do so will invariably see him labeled a Flop at the club.
