Manchester United and Brentford; which team was better this weekend?

Manchester United and Brentford both played in the English premier league this weekend and they both lost. Although their opponents were different, there is need to look into the performance of the two premier league teams; at least for the purpose of comparison.

Brentford hosted Chelsea in a keenly contested match day 8 fixture, although they lost the match to a bigger team Chelsea, many believe that they (Brentford) were the better team and deserved at least a point from the match. The ball possession was 44:56 in favour of the visitors but the real threat was from the host team.

Brentford recorded 17 attempts, 7 of which were on target/goal. This was against Chelsea's 5 attempts and only one on target. Luckily for the visitors, they were able to secure the maximum point from their only shot on goal. Even the corner kicks was 5 at piece for the two teams, showing that the host posed the greater threat in the match.

Manchester United on the other hand played against Leicester City; a team that is unarguably less experienced when compared to Chelsea who played against Brentford. Yet despite their good away form, they failed to secure at least a point. Although Manchester United had more of the ball possession, recording 51% against Leicester City's 49%, the host was the better team.

United had 18 total goal attempts against Leicester's 22, 6 shots on goal against Leicester's 11. The free kicks was 19:7 in favour of Leicester also the corner kicks was 4:3 in favour of Leicester City as well. These statistics cumulated to the 4:2 score line that was in favour of Leicester City.

In comparison, Manchester United had a better ball possession than Brentford while Brentford had greater shot on goal than Manchester United. Brentford totally gave Chelsea a better fight than United gave to Leicester. Brentford hit the goal post several times, had a goal line clearance by Chelsea's defender Chalobah and still conceded less number of goals. These statistics clearly shows that Brentford was better than Manchester United during this weekend match.
