Opinion: 3 Records Lionel Messi Could Break Next Season If He Signs Contract Extension

Apparently, Barcelona don't want to settle for second best in the league next season, as they are hell-bent on restoring their lost glory in Europe's top-5 leagues. As a result, they have already signed four new brilliant and talented players in this summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, the Blaugranas captain hasn't signed a contract extension with the Catalans, as his deal expired at Camp Nou last month. But, Joan Laporta believes the Argentine will definitely pen a 2-year deal with the club, because everything is in process.

On the other hand, there are three records Lionel Messi could break in the 2021-2022 season, having watched his performance in all competitions this year. Of course, it's very certain that he will stay with the LaLiga side, because he loves the club.

The 6th Ballon D'or winner started the 2020-2021 campaign awfully, but he amazed all many football fans in 2021 and he's with the most goal contributions (46) in 36 appearances. Without a doubt, he has the abilities and capabilities to break the 3 records below, if he continues with the Ronald Koeman's side.

1. The Argentina captain could smash Pedro Rodriguez's record next campaign, as the Spaniard held the record for the most fastest hat-trick at Barcelona. He bagged a 9-minute hat-trick against Getafe in 2013-2014. However, Messi was only able to score his quickest hat-trick in 12 minutes, and that was against Rayo Vallecano in 2014-2015. Without being biased, netting three goals within 9 minutes isn't a child's play, but the Catalans wizard can achieve this feat, especially with the help of other excellent players in the team.

2. Lionel Messi could go for Ryan Giggs' record in 2021-2022, as the Manchester United legend held the record for most titles (36) won with a single club, while he has currently won 35 trophies with Barcelona. Literally, Joan Laporta is gathering reinforcements so as to be able to win cups, as many as possible next campaign. As a result, the Argentina international could reach this milestone, by adding at least 2 titles to his achievement. Since they will be participating in competitions like the LaLiga, Champions League and others.

3. Another record the Argentine could smash next season is Josep Samitier's, the Spain international registered most Barcelona's Copa del Rey goals (65) between 1919 and 1932, while the Blaugranas captain ended the 2020-2021 campaign with just 54 Copa del Rey goals. Statistically, he will need to score more than 11 goals before he can claim the record, and he could make it happen with the help of Sergio Agüero and Memphis Depay in the squad.

Can Lionel Messi smash any of these records?
