Spain ended Italy's long unbeaten run last night to reach the final of the UEFA Nations League. Italy's 37-game unbeaten run comes to an end last night in an intriguing and fierce UEFA Nations League semi-final clash. Spain has reached the final of the Nations League and will meet either Belgium or France in the UEFA Nations League final on Sunday.
A 17-year-old Barcelonà youngster bossed the midfield during the fierce encounter between the two giant nations. Many were surprised to see the 17-year-old in the starting lineup of a top game such as the semi-final of the Nations League. But the young star displayed an extraordinary performance.
Gavi Paez made his debut with La Roja aged 17 years and 62 days last night. He is the youngest debutant in the history of the Spanish national team. Gavi was fearless during the match, age has gotten nothing on him. He combined well with the experience of Sergio Bousquet and Koke in the midfield.
He was very smooth in possession and also won a tonne of duels. Also, he wasn't afraid to pull out a tackle on several occasions. The 17-year-old wasn't afraid to ask for the ball and bossed the midfield where the likes of Jorginho, Veratti, were playing. Gavi completed 85mins of play before he was substituted last night.
But it's so unfortunate that Gavi Paez doesn't get more playing time at his club, Barcelona. Many have tipped him to be the next Xavi for the club. The sensational youngster made his first-team debut for Barcelona against Getafe but has only played in 3 Spanish league matches and two champions league matches according to football Critics.
If Spain coach, Luiz Enrique wasn't afraid to start the 17-year-old in a competitive match last night, then Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman should give the lad more playing time most especially in starting matches. The young lad might be a solution to the poor results and lackluster performances if given more time. The young lad deserves more playing time in Camp Nou. He bossed the midfield last night and might as well be the solution to Barcelona's poor midfield.
