It served as the original home stadium for Everton Football club between 1884 and 1891.

The Two gates at Anfield are named after Liverpool's former managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley.

As a result of Second World War bomb damage, Manchester United shared Maine Road with local rivals Manchester City from 1941 to 1949.
Like Liverpool's Anfield, Manchester United pitch is surrounded by four covered all-seater stands namely, the Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton and West Stands which each stand has at least two tiers except the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand which has one tier due to construction restrictions.
