Arsenal appointed Mikel Arteta after recording some poor results under the former boss Unai Emery in December 2019. The decision was made to bring out the best from the arsenal's team after some underwhelming performance by the players.
The gunners were winless for seven games under Unai Emery which led to his sack in late a November, a move which was supported by the majority of the arsenal's faithful.
Although Freddie Ljungberg was appointed as an interim coach he didn't deliver as expected which prompted the gunners to sign thier former player Mikel Arteta.
Here are the 5 major changes under Mikel Arteta the gunners have experienced.
1) Defensive Improvements.
Before Mikel Arteta was appointed coach arsenal defence was in turmoil with no sense of communication between the two center backs conceding at a rate of 1.33 goals per Premier league match since he arrived, the figure had decreased to 0.9, after signing Pablo Mari from flamengo and Cedric Soares from Southampton for further reinforcement.
2) Changes to Arsenal's attacking strategy
Under Unai Emery it was noticeable that the players have lost the will to attack as their attacking prowess was very weak so far it has changed and the gunners have become more aggressive in thier attacking approach. The Premier League goal per game rate climbed from 1.33 under Unai Emery and Ljungberg to 1.6 with Mikel Arteta.
This aggressive attacking have made the gunners star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang firing at all cylinders, revitalization of Alexander Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe.
3) The 3-4-3 formation
Under Unai Emery arsenal formation usually line up with the 4-2-3-1, what is different is that under Mikel Arteta they start with the 3-4-3 formation making the use of the wing backs when attacking and the 4-4-2 flat formation when defending a formation that have made thier defence very difficult to breach lately.
4) The perfect substitute
The idea of substition decision, in the time of Emery, was very poor and such decision affected the game and the results. In this aspect Mikel Arteta have excelled in making the right substitute during the course of the game a decision that have favoured Joe Willock, Maitland-Niles and others.
5) Confidence in Young players
Although Unai Emery promoted young players during his time at arsenal, the likes of Matteo Guendouzi who played regularly, Mikel Arteta trusted his young players; Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson have been brilliant so far.
Do you think Arteta's Arsenal would excel in the Premier league next season?
