Opinion: Why Solskjaer Doesn't Deserve A New Deal.

On Saturday, 24th of July, an official announcement was made by Manchester United, which shows they have handed a new contract to head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian gaffer signed a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford till 2024, with the option to extend for a year more.

As much as the club wants to build a team that is worthy of challenging in the premier league as well as the champions league, handing Solskjaer a new deal is a wrong decision.

Even if they trust him to lead the club to the next level, the timing is wrong, Solskjaer has one year left before signing this new deal and they should have allowed him to run it till January, then see how things turn out before rewarding him with a new deal.

However, the deed has already been done but I want to state my reason for saying Solskjaer doesn't deserve the new contract.

(1) Tactical Approach & Substitutions

The Norwegian tactician mostly gets his tactics wrong, and instead of using his substitutions to undo his initial approach, he will go on to introduce another tactic that will make situations worse.

My remark is backed by the recent result the team played out yesterday in the pre-season match against Queen Park Rangers.

As much as many would say it's a pre-season match and also that United was unlucky with the result(4-2), it's a preparatory match and it's a direct symbol of what we are going to see in the coming season.

Another example was seen during the Europa League final against Villareal, the teams were tied on 1-1 after playing 120 minutes, which means penalty kicks will set in. Solskjaer sticks with David De Gea who has one of the worst penalty-saving records in the Premier League when he should have brought in Henderson who has one of the best penalty-saving records in the league.

(2) Trophy

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been on the wheel, piloting the club since 2018 but hasn't led the team to any trophy.

He shouldn't have gotten a new deal base on his results at the club, if he was to be a Chelsea coach, he would have been shown the exit door, how would he deserve a new deal when he lost four semi-finals and a final.
