UEFA Champions League

After Tuchel Said That Chelsea Don't Want PSG In UCL, See The 2 Teams Chelsea Could Most Likely Get

Today is the day the Champions league quarter finals and semifinals draw will be made and the remaining teams will know their respective opponents. From Germany, we have 2 teams remaining, Bayern Munich and Borrusia Dortmund, from Spain; only Real Madrid, from England; we have Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, and the remaining two teams are French side PSG and Portuguese side FC Porto. As seen from the list of clubs remaining in the competition, the only relatively easy team to play here would be FC Porto. The Portuguese side managed to upset Juventus in the previous round and may now be given their toughest test yet. It's difficult seeing them progress from this stage of the Knockout phase because regardless of the opposition they are paired with, they will be understandably the underdogs.

Chelsea and Manchester City from England has been touted to be the flag bearers for English sides in the quarter finals this season because of how strong both teams have been in the Champions league. Liverpool however may not be as strong as they were 2 seasons back, but they are still a strong opposition to face. Bayern Munich are among the favourites to win and retain their crown this season, but much less so could be said of their German counterparts, Borrusia Dortmund. Dortmund may be the surprise package from this phase henceforth but not everyone believes they will make it to the finals. What about PSG? The French side looked like a team capable to taking on anyone after they demolished Barcelona 4-1 at Camp Nou, but their return leg fixture left a lot to be desired. Barcelona could easily have made a comeback but were left to rue their chances after missing a couple of clear cut chances. PSG's performance left a lot of question marks over their heads as many fans questioned their potency if they are paired with a better and more organised team than Barcelona.

Just yesterday, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was asked if he would like to face his former employers Paris Saint Germain in the quarter finals of the champions league and the German gaffer's response was;

"I am not sure. They are a very strong team".

From this little answer, one could easily tell that the prospect of facing PSG does not really entice Thomas Tuchel. He knows the French team very well, their strength and weaknesses so it's no surprise that if left for him, then facing PSG would most definitely not be an option. And after Tuchel said this what team is he expecting his side to be drawn against? Just so you know, no Champions league aspirant will like to face Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Dortmund and Liverpool as these teams could send you packing at this very stage. So who will Chelsea get today? Here are the two teams we think Chelsea will most likely get in the champions league this season. Spoiler alert, one is a German team and one is an English team. Do here they are;

1. Manchester City:

A lot of people will not understand this but from the Champions league quarter finals upwards, teams from the same country can face each other as long as the draw is concerned. And since we have 3 English Premier league clubs, chances that they could get to go against one another is very likely. 2 seasons back, Tottenham had to face Manchester City in this stage because they were 3 English teams remaining and a season before that, Liverpool eliminated Manchester City. So here now we have another English trio and we are not ruling out Chelsea chances of facing either liverpool or City. It will be an interesting fixture none the less.

2. Bayern Munich.

Pretty bad right? I mean after going through the rigours of conquering Atletico Madrid only for you to be drawn against the Almighty Germans instead. Chelsea might still possibly not play Bayern Munich and could take on their German league counterparts, Borrusia Dortmund. Either way, the probability of getting to play Bayern or Dortmund is pretty high though. But given Bayern Munich's penchant of getting drawn against English clubs, we would go for the German Champions. It's wouldn't be an exciting prospect for either clubs, because in as much as Chelsea will like to avoid Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich themselves will absolutely love to avoid the blues and get opponents like FC Porto.

So here we have it, those we think will be Chelsea's possible quarter finals opponents. Before I bow out, I would like to say that the matchup most fans would like to see now is Bayern Munich vs Manchester City as both giants would then try to eliminate each other. Have a good day.
