Of the many players that could have scored a goal for Manchester United against Villarreal, no one expected it to be Alex Telles and not only was the goal crucial, the mode of conversion was simply a beauty to behold. The Brazilian was called into the starting line-up as the only suitable replacement for the Injured Luke Shaw and he didn't disappoint with a decent performance. It goes without saying that Shaw's consistency had limited Telles playing opportunities, but the former Porto player remained patient all along while taking his few chances as they come. Following his first United goal, Telles might be just one clinical finisher that has been on the bench for so long. However, it is not known for how long Luke Shaw will be out, but if Telles keeps going in the right direction, then the Englishman is about to get a very serious competition in the left back position. Although the Brazilian's goal may have taken over a season to arrive, now that it has finally come, it will live long in the minds of those who watched him execute it.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must learn to harness what Telles produced against Villarreal at Old Trafford and in order to do that, he has got to play the 28 year old regularly even though it could become a challenge for Luke Shaw. Take nothing away from the United's number 23 abilities, but the Red Devils have got a great finisher in Alex Telles and should he keep it up, then the race for the left back position just got intensified.
Do you think Alex Telles can vie Luke Shaw for a starting berth?
