Chelsea are close to completing a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz.
Havertz has attracted interest from top European clubs following his impressive 2019/20 campaign, where he scored 18 goals in 40 appearances.

Chelsea were expecting strong competition for the 21-year-old but have since emerged as the only club willing to meet his €80m valuation.
Havertz informed Leverkusen officials of his desire to leave after their DFB Pokal final defeat to Bayern Munich on July 4, which subsequently accelerated negotiations.

It’s understood that talks with head coach Frank Lampard convinced the player to join – and their involvement in the Champions League next season will not impact any deal.
Personal terms are only ‘minor details’ away from being agreed with salary demands proving no issue.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also expressed an interest in Havertz, but neither side could justify significant financial outlay in the COVID-19 affected economy.
