Premier League

Opinion: Man.United are not ready to compete for the PL title even with Ronaldo.

Frustrated should be an understatement when describing what one feels about United's performances this season. Going into the new season, many great things were expected of the Old Trafford club after making some incredible signings which includes Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In fact, once they completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, many believed they are the team to beat in the league, with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham seen as an outsider in the race for the Premier League title. However, with seven games into the new season, United have shown that they are incapable of winning the league because their performances have not been convincing.

Over the years, for any side that has won the Premier League title, there is a level of dominance, confidence, and assuredness that literally characterized their play. However, in United's case, most of the games they win have been struggles.

In my opinion, they seem to have a Star studded squad but doesn't know how to integrate each of them into their system. In other words, we can say United lack a clear identity in their way of playing. No one really understand what they stand for, maybe a tiki taka teams or a side that plays a high line and pressing from the front. Their play is too passive and predictable.

The fact that they are also vulnerable at the back, especially when facing a counter attacking team, is also a cause for concern. In almost all their games, they hardly play as a team, instead, they have always rely on individual brilliance of the likes of Ronaldo, Pogba, Fernandes and even Lingard. All these things are not what characterizes a winning side.

A side capable of winning the Premier League is a team who can find solutions to different problems that faced them in a game, which is something United lack at the moment. Considering all these, one can say they are indeed not ready to compete for the title. Maybe if they have another coach who can integrate a better system, but as it is now, they are not ready to compete for honors.
