UEFA Champions League Update 2019/20

UEFA have agreed to complete the remaining 16 games left in the Champions league in just over 11 days,these 16 games include the single leg quarterfinals, semifinals and final including the remaining Round of 16 matches left.

This global competition which was halted earlier in March,due to the coronavirus outbreak, will now commence on the 7th of August with the remaining round of 16 games left,after which, the single leg round of 8 and single leg semifinals, then to be culminated with the final game,all 16 matches,scheduled to take place within 11 days at their respective venues.

The Single leg quarterfinals will take place,within 4 consecutive days from August 12th to August 15th.

While the semifinals will take place in just 2 days,from August 18th to August 19th.after which,the Final will be held in Lisbon.

This changes are to enable quicker culmination of the tournament instead of the regular two legged games which would have warranted 6 extra matches.

The matches are scheduled to be played behind closed doors, but this might not be the case if the Portuguese Government agree for limited number of people to enter the stadium,while observing safety and social distancing protocols.

The teams that are already qualified for the Quarterfinals include Atalanta,Liverpool,PSG and Napoli after their round of 16 triumph.

While Man City will host Madrid in the second leg (2-1 first leg),Bayern welcome Chelsea to the Allianz stadium after their 3-0 deficit at home,and Olimpique Lyon travel to face Juventus (1-0 first leg) While Napoli will face Barcelona at the camp nou,following their 1-1 draw in the first leg.

It will surely be an interesting Champions league edition this year,especially since we don't have to wait for a week before we can watch our stars play again,feels good to bring back the almost inevitable Champions League matchday tensions.

The same format will be employed for the Europa league games, to be held in Germany,set to commence August 10th.
