Most Manchester united fans keep wondering why the coach was unable to make a fifth change following the injury to Brandon Williams in the final minutes of the match against Southampton despite the new rule permitting the substitution of 5 players.
The new rule says “A team can make 5 substitutions in 3 phases” what this means is that the match can only be paused 3 times for a team to make substitution.
Now let me break it down, in the first phase, Paul Pogba was replaced with Fred Rodriguez. In the second phase, Scott Mctominay and Daniel James were brought in for Bruno Fernandez and mason greenwood respectively.
And in the third phase, Williams was brought in for the injured Luke Shaw and as such Ole Gunner Solskjaer was unable to bring in another player following the head injury to Brandon Williams even tho the rule permits 5 substitutions.
What do you think about the rule?
