Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's attention and focus will now be on finishing in the top four in order to qualify for Champions League after Manchester United lost 3-1 to Chelsea in the FA Cup Semifinals on Sunday evening. Goals from Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud put the Blues ahead, before Maguire added a third goal for Chelsea when he scored an own goal.
Their next game is on Wednesday against Westham United. The game will be played at Old Trafford and Manchester United needs to win in order to be assured of top four finish.
Manchester United is at advantage over Leicester City in the battle for European football next season. I recall that Tottenham Hotspur defeated the Foxes 3-0 on Sunday. Both teams are actually level on 62 points but Manchester United have one match in hand.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will definitely learn from the last match with Chelsea, as he prepares his team to face Westham United on Wednesday. He benched Pogba, Martial and Greenwood. He also changed his previous pattern of playing big teams. As a result, the match was seemingly difficult for Man United.
Here is how Manchester United could line-up:
David De Gea (Goalkeeper)
According to reactions from Manchester United fans after the 3-1 loss to Chelsea, David De Gea was part of the reasons Manchester United lost the match. He made two errors that resulted to two goals. The ball slipped off his gloves when he attempted to save Mount's thunderbolt in the second half.
However, he is in line to man the post again. I believe he will have a better game against Westham United FC on Wednesday evening.
Luke Shaw is currently injured. This means that Brandon Williams will take his place at left back on Wednesday. Williams had a shaky game against Chelsea but he could do better this time. He has got alot of time to improve.
Aaron Wanbissaka will continue his duties at right back. The only issue he has at the moment is crossing the ball into the opposition box. But I think he will have a nice game as usual. He will need to be at his very best in order to manage pressure on the right.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will continue their partnership in the defense. They will go into the game with the hope of putting in a better performance. They need to be on their toes if they must stop Westham.
Pogba's absence from the beginning of the game with Chelsea cost Manchester United the usual quality and dominance in the middle of the park. I don't think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who apologized for his mistakes will leave him out of the starting line-up. He is an asset.
Nemanja Matic will have a sigh of relief as he will play alongside Pogba in the middle because things seemed difficult for him in the FA Cup Semifinal match against Chelsea FC.
Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood will man the flanks as usual. They will support the attack by running at Westham defense. They have great skills and they are capable of hurting Westham like they hurt other teams.
January signing, Bruno Fernandes, scored from the penalty spot to give Manchester United a consolation goal on Sunday evening. He will play in the attacking midfield position. I see him scoring again on Wednesday night.
Anthony Martial will start in attack. He will be assisted by Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford. The trio have established a strong force and understanding which would be useful against Westham United on 23rd July.
The game will be tough because Westham United is a good team. However, I think Manchester United will come back to winning ways by recording a convincing 3-1 triumph.
