The English Premier League resumes this weekend after thrilling Champions, Europa and Conference League during the midweek which saw some footballing giants suffer defeats at the hands of underdogs. Chelsea which lost to Juventus will host Southampton in the Premier League and they aim to bounce from back-to-back defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Juventus respectively.
Without doubts, Chelsea has a very strong side and are one of the favourites for the league title but their recent defeats could have a psychological effect on them if they don't get a win against Southampton. The team has been able to score 12 goals in the league and have conceded just 2 goals which is a good start as it translates to an average of 2 goals every match given the fact that they've played six games.
Amongst those goals scored by the team, Lukaku alone has scored three of those with the other 9 shared among his teammates. This could be a bit worrisome as the player in his last season at Inter Milan scored 24 goals and had a series of assists which prompted Conte to say Tuchel hasn't fully utilized Lukaku.
Conte recently said Chelsea will be unstoppable if Tuchel fully understands him and that would mean more goals for him if he does.
The other thing worthy of worry is the fact that Kovacic is the Chelsea player with the most assists in the league as he has three to his name in six games played. Chelsea has a lot of players who can hold onto the ball especially in the opposition's final third and Kovacic isn't one of those players.
He's more favoured in the central midfield as he's fond of going deeper to his halve to get the ball and dictate play which should give room for other attackers to push opponents' defenders deeper into their halve.
It means the likes of Ziyech, Havertz, Werner and others will have to step up their game and be able to create the final passes for Lukaku if they're to be able to fully utilize him. It's not a bad thing that Kovacic is Chelsea's top assists provider so far in the league but they should all be able to provide assists in numbers lile him and turn Lukaku into the beast he was before he left Inter Milan so he can better his goal ratio.
If the current crop of players can't make Lukaku replicate his successes at Chelsea, Tuchel may have to emulate Conte and find a player like Latauro Martinez to form a lethal bond with him.
Do you think the players still need time together to be able to bring out the best in Lukaku or do you think Tuchel Tuchel will have to find a player as tough as Latauro Martinez to come partner with Lukaku in front of attack?
