Premier League action kicks off again on the 16th of October. Chelsea will travel to Brentford Community Stadium to take on their fellow south London team Brentford FC. Chelsea currently sits at the top of the table after defeating Southampton FC 3-1 on matchday seven. Courtesy of goals from Trevor Chalobah, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.
The Bees on the other hand will go into the game on the back of a win away to West Ham United. That was Brentford's second successive away win and The Bees have taken seven points from their last three matches. Brentford has earned 12 points from seven games so far and sit seventh in the table.
The Blues have lost just one premier league match this season and will be looking to avoid another defeat. Therefore in other to ensure victory for Chelsea against Brentford, Thomas Tuchel should start the match with these players.
It is a known fact that Thomas Tuchel favours a very tight and stubborn defensive line. When he first joined the club, Tuchel said (via Sky Sports) that he wanted to build 'a team nobody wants to play. His focus was on building a defence that was stubborn and tough to beat, and we saw just how well he has accomplished that target against Liverpool. So in other not to concede against Brentford, Tuchel should deploy the back three of Trevor Chalobah, Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva. Chalobah has not only proven to be consistent in covering defence for Tuchels side but has also shown his knack for scoring goals. Also, because he was not called up to the National Team for the world cup qualifiers, and has been training at Cobham, he will be fully fit to face the Bees. The 22-year-old Englishman will give Chelsea's defence that much-needed solidity.
On the other hand, it is common knowledge that the best teams in modern football have attack-minded full-backs who push forward at every opportunity. Defensive ability is no longer what sets the best full-backs apart, and that is where Ben Chilwell comes in. Chilwell, who is among the best in the Premier League, is better in an attacking sense. Therefore in the two full-back positions, Ben Chilwell should be deployed on the left and Ceaser Azpilecueta on the right; Since Reece James is yet to recover from his injury.
N'golo Kante and Ruben Loftus Cheek should be paired in the midfield if the former is fully fit. But if not, the midfield pairing of Mateo Kovacic and Loftus Cheek should be retained as it worked well against Southampton.
Upfront, Romelu Lukaku should be flanked by Mason Mount and Timo Werner. With Mason Mount replacing Hodson Odoi, who at the moment; seems not to be fit.
And of course, Edward Mendy will man the post. The Senegalese helped Chelsea win their second Champions League trophy with his brilliance between the sticks.
If Thomas Tuchel starts the match with these players, I believe Chelsea will not concede any goal and will emerge victoriously. My opinion though, what do you think?
