Ben Chilwell speaks on what Edouard Mendy offers Chelsea after Brentford heroics

Ben Chilwell's goal in Chelsea's 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday was the game-winner, but few would disagree that it was Edouard Mendy who gave the Blues the victory.

The goalkeeper has proven to be a superb signing since joining the club from Rennes in September 2020, and his reputation has only increased under Thomas Tuchel.

Mendy has 30 clean sheets in 54 appearances for the Blues this season, which is more than he has goals conceded.

Mendy's saves against the Bees were among of his best of the season, both in terms of quality and quantity.

Chilwell applauded each of the Senegal international's six saves in the encounter. Mendy, according to the Blues defender, is the entire package.

"I'm thrilled to score a goal, but I think we have to thank Edou," Chilwell told Chelsea's official website.

"I'm not sure how many saves he made, but there were a lot of crucial saves, and he does it for us every week."

"Whether it's once or twice, or multiple times in this game, he bails us out." He's a world-class goalkeeper, and we owe him our gratitude.

“It simply gives you confidence knowing you have someone like that behind you who comes to receive the ball from crosses, is a fantastic shot-stopper, and has a lot of experience.

"We see it every day in training, but now he's receiving the praise he deserves, and in games like these where he makes massive saves, he ends up bringing us the three points."
