Reason Why Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea Head Coach Appointment is Being Delayed

The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea’s next head coach is yet to be confirmed, and one of the reasons for the delay has been revealed. According to football intermediary Paul O Keefe, negotiations have been delayed due to some contractual fine details on image rights that are yet to be agreed. However, it is expected that the negotiations will be concluded soon.

Pochettino is set to take over as the head coach in the summer ahead of the 2023/24 season, succeeding Graham Potter. The search for the next permanent boss was led by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and Pochettino’s appointment will see him bring several staff members to add to his Stamford Bridge backroom team.

Chelsea will return for pre-season in early July, ahead of their tour of the United States, where they are due to face Wrexham, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Fulham, and Borussia Dortmund. Pochettino will have a big job on his hands this summer to overhaul the bloated squad, and it is expected that the negotiations will be concluded soon.

The Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership has made the decision to freeze general admission season tickets for next season, which has appeased the fans ahead of the imminent appointment. A club statement following the announcement read: “This season has not produced the results that any of us want. We know what we are working towards, but equally we know that will require hard work, determination, and commitment. We all want to see Chelsea back where we belong and to share many more winning moments together at Stamford Bridge.”

In an email to supporters, the club added: “Next season promises to be an exciting one as our Board continues to invest for the future – shaping a new era for Chelsea.” The appointment of Pochettino as the next head coach is eagerly awaited by the fans, and it remains to be seen how he will perform in his new role.
