UEFA Champions League

Rio Ferdinand: PSG will need to get the right mix

Parist Saint Germain fielded their amazing front three comprising of Lionel Messi, Julian Mbappé and Neymar Jr for the first time as a trio playing together and they could only come out with a 1-1 draw away to Club Brugge in their opening Champions League match.

Messi was added to the ranks and seen as the icing on the cake which would see the French Club win the Champions League for the first time, but the match was far from the true representation of what was expected of the team.

Ander Herrera had put the visitors in front and Messi had also hit the woodwork but a counter display from Club Brugge saw a comeback.

After the Match Michael Owen was dissatisfied with the outcome of the French Giants. He actually pointed to the fact that the front three although amazing are not so dangerous together.

He told BT Sport: "As much as we drool over them, this PSG team with those forwards, they are all phenomenal players in their own rights.

"But three together makes it weaker for me and I don't really understand why they are one of the favourites for it (Champions League).

Rio Ferdinand on the other hand disagreed, adding: "If you get it right behind them, if you get the right mix with Verrati, Gueye, Wijnaldum, you've got legs.

"Yes you need to get a bit of work from them at times, coming back, but I've seen Neymar do it. Mbappé is young enough to be able to do it, he has to.

PSG should be the team to beat if they get the right mix. Let's watch and see how future matches unfolds.
