Manchester United will return to Champions League action on Wednesday night when they host Villarreal at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they take on a strong Villarreal side in their second Champions League fixture at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will be coming into the game with the aim to win after losing against Young Boys in their Champions League opening fixture.
Manchester United's new signing, Cristiano Ronaldo has been in good form since he made a return to the Premier League. Cristiano Ronaldo has already scored three Premier League goals in three matches and will be hoping to add to his tally on Wednesday. Despite the fans wanting to see more of Cristiano Ronaldo against Villarreal this midweek, here are the two reasons why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should rather keep Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench.
1. Fatigue and poor performance against Aston Villa:
Cristiano Ronaldo started the season very well but his performance in the last match against Aston Villa was dreadful and deserved to have him dropped to the bench. Cristiano Ronaldo may be one of the best goal scorers in the world but he rarely adds much to the team other than the goal.
Unlike Lionel Messi who can create chances for his teammates, Cristiano Ronaldo on the other hand is more of a goal scorer and any matches he fails to score will always look average. Against Aston Villa, Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to live up to expectations as Manchester United lost a second time at Old Trafford this season.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo needs rest:
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently 36 years old and may not be able to perform effectively in every match this season. Manchester United game against Villarreal is a must-win match hence why Cristiano Ronaldo should be dropped to the bench in favour of Edinson Cavani who was Manchester United star last season.
Moreover, Cristiano Ronaldo is not supposed to play regularly due to his age and most importantly the younger players need some game time as well.
