Gareth Southgate, the Three Lions coach has shown no empathy for Manchester United's right-back, Aaron Wan Bissaka. The Congolese-born player has been sidelined by Southgate in nearly all the competition. Despite him getting the first-team football ahead of Reece James.
Talk about the lad who has more experience, AWB came into the limelight ahead of Reece. He played at Crystal Palace before Manchester United signed him under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Although, Reece James is more attacking-minded than AWB and could cross the ball better than him. This might be the only reason why Southgate keeps on giving the Chelsea player the National call.
With Reece's recent injury, Wan Bissaka is supposed to have gotten a call to the team. Shockingly, Gareth is still holding on to Reece James despite his injury, not a decent approach in piloting a National team. AWB can be deployed in different positions for England if being given the chance. He has shown that ruthlessness at the backline, a major backbone in Manchester United defense.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his shock at how surprised he was on Gareth still summoning James despite his injury. It's weird to pick an unfit player ahead of a fit player. Quite risky for Reece who might have not recovered so well from the injury, you don't rush him in an international football like that.
The England coach has been forced to replace Reece with Ben Chillwell, another Chelsea player in the last few hours. Gareth Southgate has exhibited some traits of favoritism in the past. In the recently concluded Euros, he benched the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Jack Grealish.
The way and manner in which he sets up his team is based on the players he loved to play and not really on the players' ability. An underdog approach that stirs confusion in the team. Even when Harry Kane is not in good form, he still gets being called up to Gareth's team ahead of Jamie Vardy. Plainly, AWB is not in Southgate's plan and he might have to find another country to play for instead of England.
