From fabulous Fàbregas to unlucky Boga - how Chelsea's last 10 debutants on EPL opening day fared

Chelsea's 2020/2021 Premier League season begins with a trip to Brighton on Monday night. New signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are set to make their debuts in the match. We take a look back at the last 10 players to make their debuts for Chelsea on the PL's season opening matchday and how they fared.

2019/2020 - Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea

Mason Mount

In what was also Frank Lampard's first game in charge of the blues, Mount's debut was one to forget as Chelsea began last season's campaign with a 4-nil away loss to United. He was one of the better performers for Chelsea in that game though.

2018/2019 - Huddersfield 0-3 Chelsea

Jorginho scored a first half penalty as Chelsea thrashed Huddersfield Town 3-0 on his PL debut. He has gone on to take and score 6 more for the blues in all competitions.

Kepa Arizzabalaga

As with Jorginho, Sarri also hand Chelsea's record signing, Kepa, his debut in that match. He kept a clean sheet in that match but unfortunately, he hasn't gone on to keep as many more as expected since then.

2017/2018 - Chelsea 2-3 Burnley

Jérémie Boga

The Ivory Coast international was handed his debut by Antonio Conte as Chelsea faced an injury crisis going into the season. Unfortunately, his debut was short-lived as Gary Cahill got red carded in the 14th and Boga was the sacrificial lamb, paving way for Andreas Christensen in the 18th minute. He never made another appearance for the blues. Cesc Fàbregas also got red carded in the second half that game.

2016/2017 - Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

N'golo Kanté

N'golo Kanté got a yellow card 3 minutes into Chelsea debut but still had an impressive performance as Eden Hazard and Diego Costa gave the blues a 2-1 home win over the Hammers. He played all 90 minutes in that game.

2015/2016 - Chelsea 2-2 Swansea

Radamel Falcao

The Colombian came on in the 84th minute to replace Willian but could do nothing to salvage 3 points for Chelsea on his debut. The rest of his time at Chelsea wasn't exactly excellent.

2014/2015 - Burnley 1-3 Chelsea

Diego Costa

It took Diego Costa only 17 minutes into his Chelsea debut to score his first goal for the club. In a match remembered for that Fàbregas assist, the Spain international showed the blues fans a glimpse of what was to come as he picked up a yellow card in the match. Speaking of Cesc Fàbregas...

Cesc Fàbregas

What a way to mark your debut for club. First, the Spaniard provided the pass/assist of the season - after 24 previous passes - for Andre Schürrle to double Chelsea's goal haul in the match. He then sent in a corner which Branislav Ivanovic headed home to secure the 3 points.

Thibaut Courtois

The Belgian was the third debutant in that match and his debut began with conceding an early goal on the match. Thankfully, Chelsea completed the comeback to make it a winning start for him.

2013/2014 - Chelsea 2-0 Hull City

Kevin De Bruyne

Source: BBC

Kevin De Bruyne's debut came in a start as one of the trio of himself, Oscar and Hazard behind Fernando Torres and he marked it with an assist for Oscar's goal in the match. He was substituted for a certain Andre Schürrle - who also was making his first competitive appearance for Chelsea - in the 67th minute. It's a shame we never got to see much more of that trio.

With Kai Havertz and Timo Werner set to play a part in Chelsea's season opener, who do you think will make the more impact?
