Chelsea new winger is one of the many players born abroad but is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria due to his Nigerian parents.
The 20 year old has represented the young lions at youth level but is yet to receive the call up to the senior team by Gareth Southgate thereby making him eligible to feature for any one of both countries.
In this article, I will be citing why the former PSV Eindhoven star should choose the Super Eagles over the English national side.
First of all, the youngster features prominently as a right winger, which is presently occupied by wingers Ademola Lookman or Samuel Chukwueze, who are yet to impress to the extent of holding down the spot as theirs, even though showing flashes once in a while.
Lookman has featured six times for the national side, scoring a goal and registering two assists. He has however showed that he is better suited to playing as a second striker, slightly behind the striker. This position has brought him success playing domestically with Atalanta in the Italian Serie A.
Chukwueze on the other hand is enjoying a purple patch in Villareal right now, scoring 3 goals and producing 3 assists. He has however being plagued by inconsistency in his international career, having only scored 4 goals in 24 appearances.
Alex Iwobi has been used on some occasions in that position, but he has showed that he is more suited to a central position.
The right wing role has proved to be a conundrum, creating the right opportunity for Madueke to come in and make the position his own as he obviously has the quality.
In sharp contrast to the Three Lions squad, Madueke would face little to no realistic opportunity to make the right wing spot his own. This is due to the fact that the role is presently occupied by Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka or some instances Marcus Rashford of United. These two are the two most inform players in England at the moment and would prove a difficult competition for Madueke.
Furthermore, Southgate has proved to be an old fashioned and more rigid manager who only chooses players who have performed for him in the past. These is one of the reasons the likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori among others, have failed to consistently make the squad, and explains why Harry Maguire is still in it.
Hence, creating the likeliness that he would have a better opportunity to make the Eagles squad and play more consistent football. This is the reason why Noni Madueke should choose the Super Eagles of Nigeria for international football.
