Some Manchester City players may be hoping Lionel Messi loses his battle to be fit for Champions League duty on Tuesday, but Ruben Dias is not one of them, as the Portuguese defender is eager to compete against the best.
The six-time Ballon d'Or winner is yet to be confirmed as part of Paris Saint-plans Germain's for a heavyweight continental showdown at Parc des Princes in midweek, but he has been photographed in full training.
Messi has been dealing with a knee injury recently, but Dias is hopeful that the Argentine will be able to play with other superstar strikers Neymar and Kylian Mbappe when the Premier League champions visit the French city.
Messi is back in training.
On Monday, PSG produced a 15-minute workout video in which Messi is featured prominently.
What's been said so far?
Dias, who helped City beat PSG in the 2020-21 Champions League semi-finals, told reporters on playing Mauricio Pochettino's star-studded side: "Messi is a phenomenal player, and as a professional, you want to play against all those sorts of names."
"However, whether it's Messi, Mbappe, Neymar, or [Mauro] Icardi, PSG have incredible depth, and whoever we face will be a big test." For that reason, everyone is looking forward to this game.
"PSG have clearly bolstered their squad across the board. They've made some terrific signings this season, and it'll be a different task than the team we faced last year.
"However, they have also been one of Europe's best teams for a period of years."
"The likes of [Sergio] Ramos and Messi will add to their winning mindset, but they already had Neymar, Mbappe, and [Angel] Di Maria when we played last season."
Is Messi fit enough to face Man City?
On September 19, the 34-year-old suffered a minor injury while playing for PSG against Lyon.
It was only his third appearance for his new club since his summer move to Parc des Princes following his stunning departure from Barcelona.
Messi is still working his way back into form, and an extended layoff isn't helping matters.
He was unable to participate in PSG's 2-0 victory over Montpellier on Saturday, instead having to watch from the stands.
After taking no chances with Messi over the weekend, the Ligue 1 giants have demonstrated that he is back in training, suggesting that he might be in contention to face City.
