5 Players That Singlehandedly Scored A Hattrick Against Chelsea

Chelsea are arguably one of the most successful teams in the history of the Premier League with six League titles under their belt. Chelsea has always been a dominant force throughout their Premier League history and has produced legendary players that have written their names in the Premier League history.

We have watched Premier League matches where Chelsea players disgraced their opponent by scoring a hat-trick with the recent incident being Christian Pulisic's hat-trick against Burnley in 2019. Now, what if we look at the times where other players have humiliated Chelsea in a game by scoring a hat-trick?

Some players have even embarrassed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge by scoring a hat-trick to sink Chelsea to a humiliating defeat in their home stadium. Let's take a look at the 5 players that have scored a hat-trick against Chelsea in a Premier League game.

1. Dion Dublin:

Match: Coventry 3-2 Chelsea,

Dion Dublin turned into a prime Maradona when his Coventry side clashed with Chelsea in a Premier League game that took place on the 9th of August 1997.

It could be that Chelsea didn't take the match too serious hence underrating Coventry in the process or Dion Dublin was unstoppable that day. Chelsea has already won the FA Cup three months earlier and was closing in on the Premier League with Man United still ahead with few points. The match that was supposed to be an easy ride turned out to be the opposite after Dion Dublin singlehandedly turned the game around to win it for Coventry.

Frank Sinclair and Tore Andre Fio had already scored to put Chelsea in front in the lead and even Frank Sinclair even celebrated wildly by pulling his shorts down. However, a magical hat-5 from Dion Dublin saw Coventry came from behind to beat Chelsea 3-2 to put the blues to the sword at Highfield Road.

2. Patrik Berger:

Match: Liverpool 4-2 Chelsea

Another player to singlehandedly destroy Chelsea and fired his team to victory is Liverpool's, Patrik Berger.

Patrik Berger scored an incredible hat-trick in Liverpool's 4-2 win over Chelsea on the 5th of October 1997. After suffering at hands of Dion Dublin, Chelsea was once again disgraced by Patrik Berger in the space of two months at Anfield Stadium. The Czech Republic striker scored a hat-trick to help Liverpool defeat Ruud Gullit’s Chelsea and earn the Reds all three points.

3 Nwankwo Kanu:

Match: Chelsea 2-3 Arsenal

Many Arsenal fans won't forget Kanu Nwankwo's sensational hat-trick against Chelsea, a match which the Gunners fans has already given up before the Nigerian striker turned the game around. Kanu Nwankwo scored a gorgeous hat trick to help Arsenal come from 2 goals down to defeat Chelsea on 23 October 1999.

Flo and Dan Petrescu had already put the blues two goals up and Chelsea seems to be cruising to victory in this game at Stamford Bridge before Kanu Nwankwo singlehandedly changed the game in favour of Arsenal.

Kanu Nwankwo scored three goals in the space of 15 minutes to disgraced Chelsea fans who were already celebrating their victory as Arsenal beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

4. Robin Van Persie:

Match: Chelsea 3-5 Arsenal,

Another Arsenal player to have disgraced Chelsea is none other than the ruthless Robin Van Persie and did it in style. Just like Kanu Nwankwo, Robin Van Persie also scored his hat-trick against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the same month as Kanu Nwankwo. The match was played on 29 October 2011 which saw Robin Van Persie piling more misery on Chelsea's side that was already heading to doom.

The Andre Villas-Boas era at Chelsea was short-lived due to lackadaisical performances from the team and their inability to produce results. It was a memorable game as both teams fought a great derby battle with Chelsea fighting to revive their dying season while Arsenal on the other hand was fighting for a top-four finish.

Van Persie scored three goals including the comedic slip by John Terry to put Chelsea to the sword and earn the Gunners all the three points at Stamford Bridge.

5. Steven Naismith:

Match: Everton 3-1 Chelsea

Everton took advantage of Chelsea's dreadful start to the 2015/16 season as Steven Naismith scored a hat-trick to give Everton the win at the Goodison Park. Steven Naismith scored a hat-trick to hand Chelsea their third loss in their opening five league games in the 2015/16 season.
