Opinion: One Chelsea player that must be considered for Ballon d'or should Chelsea win the UCL.

Fate and luck, maybe they are two different things, but both seems to be on Chelsea side in their quest for another Champions league crown. The Blues have been avoiding tougher opponents till this stage, and one the seems to finally get one, they are meeting with a weakened Real Madrid side, whose transfer activities in recent times have been a shamble.

Without doubt, after the UCL semi final first leg was played yesterday, Chelsea are the favorite to advance to the final, and going by their performance, they look unstoppable, which means they can be tipped to lift the trophy in Istanbul. Should this happens, Chelsea will have one or two players whose performances will be recognized and could be considered for Ballon d'or award, but who can that be?

While most of Chelsea's success, have been based on collective team efforts and not a form of individual performance, the fact that some individual shone than the other in games, and that their effort in matches make winning possible, cannot be ignored. Chelsea might not have the explosiveness of Eden Hazard or a scoring midfielder like Lampard, but this current crop of players must be repaid for hard work.

Olivier Giroud is Chelsea's highest goal scorer in the competition, so, Chelsea might not have a forward player to present for any individual award, however one area where Chelsea have been strong and it's evident, is the midfield area and that's owing to the presence of Ngolo Kante.

The French midfielder might be not be goalscoring midfielder most Chelsea fans are used to, but his strength and energy in the midfield and his ability to drive the ball forward has helped Chelsea time and time again, to carve teams open. He's a box to box type and he always covers a lot of ground.

Kante is a world cup winner, and his story is very inspiring. He's not the talking type, a humble player who loves to do the talking on the pitch. The time is now, if Chelsea win the UCL, which is very possible, Ngolo Kante should be talked up for a Ballon d'or trophy. He deserves that honor.
