Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has put an end to speculation surrounding the future of striker Victor Osimhen by confirming that the Nigerian will not be sold this summer. Osimhen joined the Naples-based club from French side Lille in 2020 and has been linked with a move away following a season hampered by injuries.
De Laurentiis made the statement in response to a tweet by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who wrote on his verified Twitter page, "Napoli president De Laurentiis: 'I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer — no way'. #transfers". Osimhen had been linked with several top European clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
In a separate interview with Italian broadcaster Rai, De Laurentiis also confirmed that he had triggered the option to extend the contract of manager Luciano Spalletti for another season. Spalletti joined Napoli in May 2021 and led the team to a second-place finish in Serie A, securing qualification for the Champions League group stage next season.
The news will be a boost for Napoli fans, who will be hoping that Osimhen can return to full fitness and form next season and help the team challenge for the Serie A title. Spalletti's contract extension will also provide stability and continuity for the team as they prepare for the new campaign.
