Liverpool set for £17m Philippe Coutinho windfall this season

Due to a clause in Philippe Coutinho's Barcelona contract, Liverpool is expected to earn an extra £17 million this season.

Injuries have plagued the Brazil international's stay at Camp Nou, as he only made 14 appearances in all competitions during the 2020-21 season.

Over the summer, Coutinho was heavily connected with a return to the Premier League, but no deal was struck, and he is still assumed to be in Ronald Koeman's plans.

The attacker has now played 90 times for Barcelona, and according to Sport, if he achieves the 100-game threshold, Barcelona will have to pay Liverpool another £17 million.

Coutinho joined Barcelona for £121.5 million from Liverpool in January 2018, and the 29-year-old currently has 23 goals and 14 assists in all competitions for Koeman's side.

Coutinho was left out of Barcelona's first two La Liga games, although he came on as a late replacement in their 2-1 win over Getafe before the international break.
