Europa League: Arsenal Could Beat Villarreal Tonight, If They Use This Formation And Tactics

Arsenal would be returning to Europa League action tonight, as they set to visit Villarreal for the first leg of their Europa League semi final game. The gunners need to grind out a win away at Villarreal if they want to keep the hopes of playing in the champions league next season alive, and they can only do this by making correct decisions from start to finish against the Unai Emery led side.

Mikel Arteta knows how much of a challenge this match is to him, and he has enjoyed good news at the return of the likes of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Alex Lacazette and Kieran Tierney from their injury situations that almost saw them out for the rest of the season. This is a big boost for Mikel Arteta who can now focus on doing the needful, selecting the best players and utilizing the best possible tactics to get a big result for the Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has come to terms with using the 4-2-3-1 as his most preferred formation, and this is what would be expected of him again today against Villarreal, with Aubameyang as the starting forward, Saka and Pepe on the wings and Martin odegaard as the attacking midfielder. Partey and Xhaka as center mifield pairing with the return of Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin as fullbacks, while Gabriel partners either Luiz or Holding as centre back.

Mikel Arteta should play his high press tactics against Villarreal, similar to what he used in the 3-1 win over Chelsea last December, and in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspurs. The high press would mean that all of the Arsenal forwards are eager to win the ball higher up the pitch and in Villarreal's territory to spur a speedy counter attack and make them on the attack at all times. This is the most prefered game plan against Villarreal compared to Arteta's excessive midfield passes before finding a long diagonal for Aubameyang to chase.
