Is it time for Spain to get their pound of flesh against Italy for Euro 2020 elimination?

San Siro, the stadium used by both Milan teams, will host a European Nations League semi-final encounter between two European football powerhouses (Italy versus Spain) on Wednesday. The last time Spain met the European Champions, Italy, was in the Euro 2020 tournament semi-finals. After a one-all tie, Italy overcame Spain in penalty shootouts. After qualifying for the finals, Italy went ahead to defeat England to lift the Euro 2020 trophy.

Spain will seek retribution against Italy for their Euro 2020 elimination at the hands of the current European Champions, Italy. If Spain were to avenge the semi-final loss to the Italians, it would not be an easy task.

To begin with, Italy has gone 37 games without losing, implying that they are already mentally stronger as a result of their extended winning streak. Italy will do all possible to keep their winning streak going in the hope of repeating their success at Euro 2020.

Furthermore, the Italians will play at San Siro, a stronghold. The benefit of playing on home soil will be crucial. Their supporters will definitely rally around their squad to provide the essential support.

Spain, on the other hand, can take confidence from the strength of their squad and the fact that they have a better head-to-head record against Italy, winning 12 and drawing 12 of their 34 meetings. Prior to their elimination from Euro 2020, Spain had won one and drawn the other of the two recent competitive encounters between the two countries.

Are these stats enough to secure a win for Spain? We have no idea yet. Will Spain eventually get their pound of flesh against Italy for their Euro 2020 elimination? Time stands in our way of getting these answers. However, we are certain that the semi-final match between Spain and Italy presents an opportunity for Spain to exact adequate revenge on Italy for ousting them in Euro 2020.
