Over the years Liverpool have enjoyed their fair share of silverware, winning the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, and Super Cup trophies under the guidance of their German tactician Jurgen Klopp.
Taking nothing away from the German, these remarkable accomplishments couldn’t have been possible without the help of Michael Edwards.
Edwards who joined the club in 2011 assumed the role of Sporting Director in 2016, it was at this time that the Reds started to enjoy success again following their previous woes in League and cup competitions. The appointment of Edwards saw the signing of some of the Reds biggest stars who have been influential in their recent successes.
Edwards was the mastermind behind the signings of Salah, Van Dijk, Allison, Chamberlain, Jota, Firmino, Mane, Fabinho, Konate, Robertson and Thiago etc. He also oversaw the sale of Coutinho which could be regarded as one of the best deals in recent years.
In an open letter to the Reds faithful Edwards has reiterated the stance of his intention to step down at the end of the 2021/2022 season. Could this be a return to the unknown for the Reds in the nearest future?.
