Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski have all been named as favorites for the Ballon d'Or in 2021, with unexpected suspects Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski all appearing and being tipped to win.

Ronaldo has enjoyed another successful year on the international stage. He's scored 13 goals in 12 games, eclipsing Ali Daei's 109 international goals to become the all-time leading scorer.

He helped Portugal qualify from the group of death and advance to the knockout rounds with a Golden Boot-winning five goals at Euro 2020.

In the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, he scored a record 10th international hat-trick against Luxembourg, taking his total to 115 goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or. Only time will tell if he can match Lionel Messi's record of six Ballon d'Or wins.

Despite Barcelona's lowest La Liga result in almost a decade and another European heartbreak last season, Messi excelled with 38 goals and 16 assists across all competitions.

He has 39 goals in the calendar year, including one for PSG in the UEFA Champions League last month. Against Manchester City, this was an extraordinary performance.

He won't be able to add to his calendar-year championship haul (Copa del Rey and Copa America), but he still has time to enhance his numbers. After showing indications of acclimating to his new circumstances, you can guarantee that Messi will. His achievements will undoubtedly improve his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or this season.

Robert Lewandowski had the most goals and championships in football's calendar year of 2020. Despite the disappointment of last year's Ballon d'Or being canceled, he has continued his incredible form this year as well.

The Polish striker tops the goalscoring count for men's footballers in top-leagues for 2021, with 48 goals in the calendar year, including 39 for Bayern Munich.

Along with the Bundesliga, the Club World Cup, and the German Supercup, he has also won three club trophies. In each of them, he shone for the Bavarians, reaffirming his place in the competition for football's most prestigious individual award, the Ballon d'Or.

According to rumors, Lewandowski will be awarded the 2020 Ballon d'Or for his dominance over the course of the previous year.

And, if that's the case, getting his hands on the most recent edition of the Ballon d'Or will be a welcome bonus. After all, he has given us the two most productive years of his professional life.
