6 key matches Lukaku could miss due to his ankle injury

Romelu Lukaku may be on the sideline for a longer period than expected following his injury in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Malmo in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Lukaku hobbled off early on during Wednesday night's rout against the Swedish club, picking up the knock when he was brought down inside the box after 21 minutes at Stamford Bridge. He was substituted in the 24th minute.

Though manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed on Friday that Lukaku will miss Chelsea's next two matches, there are reports he could be out for up to four weeks for injuring his ankle.

Staying on the sideline for the next four weeks means the Belgium international will miss his club's six matches already scheduled for the period.

The six matches are a combination of Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Champions League fixtures.

Here are the six matches the former Inter Milan striker could miss at the Stamford Bridge club.

1. Chelsea vs Norwich City: Lukaku will surely miss Saturday's English Premier League fixture against Norwich at the Stamford Bridge.

The early kickoff will commence by 12:30pm.

2. Chelsea vs Southampton: The encounter is an EFL Cup Round 16 game scheduled for Tuesday, October 26.

The kickoff is set for 7:45pm.

3. Newcastle vs Chelsea: Lukaku could be missing when Chelsea travel to St. James' Park for the EPL fixture against Newcastle on October 30. 3pm is the kickoff time.

4. Malmo vs Chelsea: The English club will then travel to Sweden for the return leg UEFA Champions League tie against Malmo on November 2.

Lukaku may miss the second leg after suffering an ankle injury during the first leg in front of home fans in London.

5. Chelsea vs Burnley: An EPL fixture against Burnley could be another miss for Lukaku if he fails to recover on time from his ankle injury.

6. Leicester City vs Chelsea: The Blues will then travel to the King Power Stadium on November 20 for the fixture against Leicester City.

It is likely Lukaku feature in the game if he returns to fitness.
