Opinion: It is becoming clearer with each match why Granit Xhaka is needed at Arsenal.

Granit Xhaka is by far one of Arsenal's most underappreciated players, considering the criticism he has had to endure as an Arsenal player over the years. He was even stripped off the Captain Armband even when he was evidently the most qualified player to wear the arm-band.

Aside from that, some Arsenal fans seem to criticised everything the midfielder does, despite his dedication to the team. They claim he is sluggish, he doesn't support attack, and he makes so many errors. To these fans, Granit Xhaka is one of the problems at Arsenal and should have been sold. However, it is now getting clearer with each match that Granit Xhaka did not feature, and that Arsenal do not just need him in the midfield, but he is the fulcrum of the Arsenal squad.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying Arsenal does not lose matches when he plays for the team. I am not saying that his presence always means a win for Arsenal.

But we have seen that Granit Xhaka's presence in the midfield seems to give the players around him some level of confidence and belief in themselves as individuals. In Granit Xhaka's absence, Arsenal seem to lack a leader in the midfield, and so many times, they look lost, even in and out of position.

Aside from that, the way the Arsenal team is setup by Mikel Arteta revolves around Granit Xhaka. Mikel Arteta's preferred formation is 4-2-3-1. With two midfielders playing deep and exchanging roles in the centre of the field, in this way, they provide both cover for Arsenal's leaky defence as well as organise the team for attack.

The two recent matches that Granit Xhaka did not play, Arsenal suffered in the midfield as Partey and Martin Odegaard were totally outrun in the midfield, and even the introduction of Sambi Lokonga did not improve the team, especially yesterday as they were constantly overrun by players like Odsonne Edouard, Conor Gallagher, Jordan Ayew, and James McArthur.

In the end, Arsenal, who had previously taken the lead through Aubameyang, who tapped in from a rebound in the eighth minute of the game, needed an equaliser to at least savage a point.

Even though many Arsenal faithful don't believe it, Arsenal need Granit Xhaka now more than they expected. I wish he recovers very fast and on time, for the other games this season, because to me, the Arsenal team is built around him. Please be kind in the comments section.
