The end of another Premier league season beckons and many managers who began the campaign have long been shown the exit door by various teams. In what has turned out to become a record breaking season with no fewer than 13 managers axed so far, a few coaches have enjoyed lengthy tenures in charge of Premier league clubs. While former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson remains the longest serving manager in Premier league history, check out the current longest serving tactician in the top tier of English football;
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)
The German tactician arrived Anfield in 2015 following a final poor season at Borrusia Dortmund. While a slow start to life with Liverpool led to a substantial amount of criticism, the 55 year old would later prove his critics wrong by bringing some world class football to Anfield.
Klopp led Liverpool to successive Champions League finals in 2017/18 and 2018/19, lifting the trophy in the latter case and narrowly missing out on their first ever Premier League title at the same time despite an incredible 97-point haul. His crowning glory came the following season, however, as he ended Liverpool’s 30 year wait for a league title in emphatic fashion. Injury problems saw their title defence derailed later on as they only managed to secure Champions league football. Last season, Klopp was in the hunt for the Quadruple with the Reds, but eventually missed out on the Premier league to Manchester City and Champions league to Real Madrid.However, they won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. This season, the Reds have been anything but fantastic and might have to settle for Europa League football as the top four looks out of sight. For context, Jurgen Klopp is the longest serving manager in the Premier league currently, he has been in the English top flight for 7 years, 6 months so far.
