Coronavirus: Diego Maradona Told To Self-Isolate Before Government Lockdown

Diego Maradona didn't wait for government advice before going into isolation - after doctors warned him he was in a high-risk candidate for Covid-19.

The Hand of God was given a stark reminder of his own mortality by his personal medic, Dr Leopoldo Luque, days before his country went into lockdown.

Maradona, 59,who is the coach of Gimsasia de La Plata, was told he could take no chances with the pandemic after suffering serious heart problems in 2000.

He immediately shut himself off in his luxury home in the Buenos Aires province of Bella Vista.

And he is now trying to ward off boredom by watching sports programmes on TV.

Diego Maradona has suffered from major health problems

Maradona suffered a serious health scare 19 years ago when he was diagnosed with myocardial arrhythmia.

It left him with only 38 percent of his heart working properly and was later found to be suffering with hypertension.

Dr Luque said: “Diego is very aware of his situation and understands the importance of staying at home and following the guidelines.

When we saw that the quarantine was coming we decided not to wait for the official announcement and made him stay at home.

Diego Maradona's famous 'Hand of God' goal dumped England out of the World Cup

He is taking vitamins and mineral supplements and is being looked after by the people who work for him.

They have also gone into quarantine and cannot enter or leave the house.

It is almost 34 years since Maradona broke England hearts at the World Cup in Mexico.

He got away with punching Argentina's first goal past Peter Shilton before destroying Bobby Robson's side with an incredible second strike that secured his country a 2-1 quarter-final win in the Azteca Stadium.
