The Portuguese star is not among the favourites for this year's gong, but his former boss thinks that should change.
The prestigious award is handed out at the end of each calendar year by French football to the player deemed to have performed best over the previous 12 months.
A list of 30 male players have been nominated and the favourite to win the award is Ronaldo's great rival and six-time winner Lionel Messi, who won the Copa America with Argentina in the summer.
United legendary manager is against that idea and believes Cristiano should win it.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: 'Cristiano deserves it. He has broken record after record this year.'
Ronaldo enjoyed an excellent year in football for club and country, winning the Coppa Italia at Juventus, finishing as Serie A top scorer last season and becoming the highest goal scorer of all-time in international men's football.
Ronaldo has continued his fine form this season after he returned to Manchester United in the summer having scored five goals in six games.
Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes also believes Ronaldo deserves this year's Ballon d'Or than ever before.
He told France Football, 'The Ballon d'Or has only one name, Cristiano Ronaldo.
'He has never deserved it as much as this year. Top scorer in Serie A and at the Euros. He holds the record for goals in Champions League and is the only one who has won everything in three different countries.
'He is the best scorer in the history of football. It is a decisive thing, it must be so for the trophy, because he continues to prove to be the best player in history.'
After he eclipsed Ali Daei's record in September's international break by becoming the all-time top scorer in international men's football, he is now on 116 goals and counting.
Do you think he deserves 2021 Ballon d'Or over anybody else?
