How Rohr May Likely Lineup His Team Against Cape Verde Without The Presence Of 8 First Team Players

The Nigerian Super Eagles have already arrived the Estadio Municipal Aderito Sena, Mindelo, for their match against Cape Verde in the 2022 World Cup qualifying games. The Super Eagles are currently leading the race in group C after their convincing 2-0 victory over Liberia on 4 September. And Gernot Rohr's men would be seeking to extend their lead at the top of the summit as they take on the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde. Interestingly, Cape Verde have gradually evolved into a reputable team and may likely pose a big challenge to the Nigerian Super Eagles.

Unfortunately for Super Eagles, they would be facing the Blue Sharks without the presence of over 7 first team players who recently returned to their respective football clubs in the United Kingdom. The recent twist in events was as a result of Cape Verde being among the countries under UK's COVID-19 red list and players who play for UK-based clubs are restricted from entering these countries. Therefore, Gernot Rohr would be without Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Joseph Aribo, Olaoluwa Aina, William Ekong and Leon Balogun.

Sadly, these players were very integral during Nigeria's latest victory over Liberia and have been the bedrock of Gernot Rohr's plans as Super Eagles coach.

Undoubtedly, the absence of these 8 first team players would be a very big test of Gernot Rohr's tactical expertise and his squad depth. As a coach, one is expected to have various plans for unforseen circumstances and Nigerians would be very eager to see Gernot Rohr's options in the absence of these veterans.

Obviously, with the unfolding circumstances, Gernot Rohr would likely return Ahmed Musa to the starting XI after the Super Eagles captain was sidelined during the match against Liberia. Maduka Okoye would certainly retain his position in between the sticks after his impressive performance against Liberia. In defense, Kenneth Omeruo and Shehu Abdullahi may replace William Ekong and Leon Balogun as center-backs, with Ebuehi and Chidozie Awaziem in as fullbacks.

Here is our predicted Super Eagles lineup for the match against Cape Verde.

Maduka Okoye; Chidozie Awaziem, Shehu Abdullahi, Kenneth Omeruo, Ebuehi; Chidera Ejuke, Bonke Innocent, Samuel Kalu; Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, and Moses Simon.
