Off to the finals! The Blues defeated Manchester United for the first time this season 3 - 1 to set up a final showdown with Arsenal in the finals of the FA Cup. Goals from Giroud, Mason Mount and an own goal from Maguire sent the Blues straight into the final. Both managers had started with a rather fringe 3 at the back formation. But it was Ole's that was stranger as he made a couple of changes to the eleven that has kept them since the restart.
As expected, both teams started cautiously, switching dominations at intervals. But it was Chelsea that started brighter with the ball, though had very few attempts to show for it. Proceedings soon changed after the drinks break as United came out better, and Fernandes forced a good save from Caballero off a set piece.Bailly was subbed off for Martial in a tactical substitution following an injury to the latter and Chelsea wasted no time to take the lead.
Off a sloppy break from the right, Oliver Giroud found himself in an ample of space to put Caesar Azpilicueta's cross behind De Gea. De Gea would have done better with the ball which he parried into the net, and more blames should go to Lindelof and Maguire who escorted Giroud into the box but could barely do nothing about the ball. Chelsea resumed the second half like a house on fire going for a second. The Blues got their second of the game in the 46th minute. Mount intercept a poor Williams pass, the English midfielder was with a lot of space he then drills his shot to the edge of the box. Chelsea were enjoying their time out there in Wembley. More woes for Manchester United as Chelsea scored a third in the 74th minute albeit by an own goal. Alonso swung in a dangerous ball into the box of Manchester United, the ball beats everyone but unfortunately for Harry Maguire the ball hits him and turned straight to the goal post. The day couldn't get worse for Manchester United.
Manchester United were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute. Anthony Martial tries to dribble Hudson Odoi and the English winger brings the French man down leaving the referee with no choice but to award United a penalty. Bruno Fernandes stepped up and scored from the spot. The goal was only a consolation for Manchester United.
Manchester United were awful on the night, Solskjaer was bested for the first time this season by Frank Lampard.
United fans blamed David De Gea for the loss, the Spaniard errors cost Manchester United the game especially his disappointing reaction to Giroud's opening goal in the first half, going on to concede additional two goals in the second half .For a goal keeper who was highly rated three to four years ago, De Gea has had dip in form and has been responsible for some bizarre goals United have conceded this season.
