Racing Genk striker Cyriel Dessers has been overlooked by coach Gernot Rohr in the recent Super Eagles games.
The Belgian-born Dessers has been in the international wilderness ever since he made his senior debut off the bench in a friendly against Tunisia last October.
However, Manager Gernot Rohr has come out to explain his decision to leave him out of the rosters against Sierra Leone, Republic of Benin and Lesotho.
Dessers has been a bit-part player since his move to Belgium, with Paul Onuachu ahead of him in the attacking pecking order at Racing Genk. He has made only five league starts, the last of which came against KAS Eupen in October.
"Cyriel Dessers was already with us," Rohr told Elegbete TV Sports. "Unfortunately, he's not playing like a starting player so much in his club in Belgium, Genk."
"Onuachu is the starting player, and Cyriel Dessers is only a substitute, which is why the competition is so fierce, and I have to pick players who are on the field all the time."
