NPFL Star Reveals How Silva Helped His Career

Kwara United defender Christopher Nwaeze has admitted that his style of play was influenced by Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva.

Before covid 19 halted football actions in Nigeria, the former Crown FC defender was enjoying a memorable debut season with the Afonja Warriors, scoring two goals in 15 Nigeria Professional Football League appearances this season.

Apart from scoring vital goals, Nwaeze is highly regarded by fans and team mates as a vital member of Kwara United's squad due to his solid defensive contribution and composure on the ball.

When asked by NPFLStat's Ayobami Animasahun to name the player with most influence on his style of play, the 18-year old defender said: "It was Thiago Silva."

"I have been a fan of him since I was young. First of all, I used to like Kompany's style of play. Then I saw one Silva's games for Brazil and from there I loved his style of play," he added.

Nwaeze's style pitches him amongst the adaptive set of new generation defenders who are comfortable with orchestrating play from the back and tactically joining the attack when the timing is right.

Meanwhile, Nwaeze's on-field leadership skill has been widely regarded as one of his most notable attributes. For an 18-year old in his debut season at an elite division club to be showing these traits, his choices of influential defenders in Silva and Kompany appeared less surprising.
